{plugging in a new look}

The Challenge

Today’s developers rely on a lot of simple plug-ins to get a work done, they tend to have multiple plug-ins from multiple sources without any integration with each other. Mohami {which specializes in plug-ins on the Atlassian marketplace} is on a mission to change that with a purpose to show developers that its software is all they need.

The Approach

I kicked off the re-brand with a visual audit of the current brand. Where it stood and where it needed to go. However, each logo needed to have its own identity while still being recognized as a part of the Mohami brand.

The key was modularity. Crafting an identity that allowed each plug-in to exist as part of a larger software suite.

Embrace the plug.

Mohami’s new brand identity allows each plug-in to have its own personality.

Color & Typography

Mohami needed a broad color system and a scalable type solution. This involved establishing a core color palette along with a range of secondary colors. In order to make the color system expandable, we utilized our neutral tones to establish a consistent color system.

To give the brand an ease-of-use approach, we settled for Poppins. With it’s mono-linear design and it’s wide range of glyphs made it the perfect choice for Mohami {being open-source didn’t hurt either}

Marketing

I wanted to make sure the plugins would standout in the Atlassian Marketplace. Currently, advertisements in the marketplace showed how the plugin looked when in use rather than being visually interesting. They tended to be direct and to the point.

For Mohami, I wanted to shift that paradigm by bringing a more visually abstract advertisement. One that illustrated the plugin rather than showed the plugin outright. Each illustration had their own concept but had a consistent style across the board

The Takeaway

After launching the new re-brand Mohami, an increase of over 127% of downloads of plug-ins and a 200% increase of banner ad clicks.

Overall the brand resonated with many of the Atlassian Marketplace customers in that it provided something different than what other developers are providing.
